Measurement is an inescapable buzzword in today’s social change environment. For organizations whose mission is to create and build social movements, finding the right metrics to communicate their effectiveness to funders and other stakeholders can be a challenge. BALLE Fellows and Staff Convene at Social Venture Institute

By Rebecca Cuttler

Over freshly grilled local fare at Social Venture Institute’s (SVI) 2013 Oyster BBQ, Pamela Chaloult offered me insight into the ingenuity that comes about when people focus on solving problems in their communities. Chaloult is the COO of Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE), an organization dedicated to building vibrant local economies across North America.

SVI 2013 included the participation of twenty four local economy fellows and staff from BALLE.  Fellows travelled from cities as far-ranging as L.A., Buffalo, Detroit and Oakland and from diverse cultural and financial backgrounds to Cortes Island to participate. New Read: Worldchanging 2.0 – Abuzz with New Solutions

By Brooke Spencer

Original post from World Changing

The writers at the wonderful eco blog, World Changing have put together a book about sustainability in our ever changing environment.

This book provides insight into basic everyday systems as well as deeper  discussion about the good of the planet. It is a guide for individuals to make small steps in order to make better, greener choices. It also covers a broader picture of how innovative technology and design can be used to better serve our planet.

The book covers topics like  how to shop greener, make cities carbon-neutral and  have zero waste.

It also discusses the future of climate change, sustainable design innovations, how to re-use existing infrastructures, and the history behind what we buy.

The book includes a foreword written by Van Jones, an environmental advocate, as well as the other innovative and thoughtful minds of designers and journalists from the World Changing family.

In the midst of an ecological crisis this book provides some interesting insights.

If you would like to read more about the book, check out the World Changing website for more information.
