Healing is movement. If you put your body in motion, you will change.
When I began dancing the 5Rhythms in 1994 at Esalen Institute in California, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I loved movement, I loved dancing with other people, I loved music. I did not know that this practice, these maps to our innermost being would transform me the way they have. This path of healing means taking responsibility for being a whole person: for becoming embodied, for having a feeling heart, for possessing a brilliant and intuitive mind, for awakening our unique soul, for opening ourselves to spirit.

I am a body advocate… I listen to the nonverbal, the movement, the breath, the stories held in our bones, flesh and hearts. I value the intelligence of the body, its wisdom expressed in a myriad of shapes, sensations and rhythm.
I know this: The body does not lie. I have experienced it over and over again in my own self and through witnessing thousands of students and clients over the years. The body is a library of our stories, our truths – nothing is forgotten in our tissues, muscles and bones. Our personal stories and the stories of our ancestors are held in the soma. The 5Rhythms are an exhilarating and liberating approach to the exploration of improvised movement that is authentic, inspired and catalytic. It is a workout for body and soul, a moving meditation, a spiritual practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body, regardless of age, experience or condition.
